The Good News
I bet by now you’ve probably heard the good news. Apparently Nothing will be recording our next project in October with Everclear frontman Art Alexakis producing. We’ll be traveling to Portland, OR to record at Jackpot Studios.
We’ve been writing a whole mess of new songs, some of which you’ve heard at our live shows and some we haven’t unveiled (They’re just way too good/new!). We’ll be including as many of them as possible on the new disc while saving room for some of our older songs as well. More on that later!
In the meantime, we’ll be road testing some of the new material and, of course, writing our asses off.
I promise to keep everyone updated throughout the recording process. We’ll be taking a ridiculous amount of photos and video. It’s also possible we’ll have a special blog setup for the very occasion. Just you wait and see.
As many of you know, Everclear has always been one of the biggest collective influences on our band. Everclear songs were some of the first we’d learned to play. Personally though, I’ve been a fan through thick and thin, having been introduced to the band by my older brother in 1995 with their release of Sparkle and Fade. In fact, I own a site called Sparkle and Fade where all my random writings live… It’s still a trip wrapping my head around recording with the same guy who taught you how to sing.
I really want to thank all the fans we’ve had the pleasure of playing for over the years. In many ways we feel we’re recording a debut. If everything goes according to the plan, this album will reach as many ears as possible on a national level. Of course, I can’t make any promises, but I feel like this is the start of something real.
Here’s to doing what you love.
Recording Demos
We’ve been in Ryan’s basement recording demos for what will be our next full-length album. We’ve got 8 new ones of drums and 2 songs fully recorded with guitars. Vocals are up next. I’ve got to gettin’ writin’ lyrics.
We’ll post them all right here at the end of the week! You’re excited? Feel these nipples!
Updates
Next on the agenda is a slightly updated website along with a brand spanking new recording of our song “The Radio.” I’m not sure about the time-frame, but it’ll happen. I’ve been bogged down with booking lately, but it’ll happen!
The Very Newest EP
I’m sitting in Smart studios today enjoying the sweet sounds of a Gibson 335 into a vintage Marshall half stack. Jim’s laying down his parts for our latest song that has me very excited, “Turn Out the Light.” It sounds similar to “Hollywood Hills” but still sounds very much like Apparently Nothing. It’ll sit nicely in our newest 5-song EP.
It will be released this fall.
Until then, we’re playing plenty of shows both in Madison and Minneapolis so check those out. I do believe they’re all either 18 and up or all ages so no complainin’. We’ll be coming up with album artwork and promotional items as well as getting this project mastered in the next few weeks. The new Box Social record will hold you over in the meantime.
Turn Out the Light
Well we never put this show on the site ’cause we kept this one underground to the super fans only. We played an acoustic set with an encore that turned out being really great. Playing acoustic is so much different, stripping the bravado and letting the songs speak for themselves. The Minnesota Daily was there shooting the show so look for an interview in Monday’s paper.
One of my favorite songs we played was a new one we wrote the previous night. It’s called “Turn Out the Light” and you can download a demo we recorded this weekend. Enjoy!
